An Article on Time Management for Students

I remember the days of being a university student. That journey started over 10 years ago for me. Thus far all of my writing has concentrated largely on my journey since leaving full-time education. I figured it best to put together this article on time management for students as that’s where it started for me, too. When first starting out with higher education, most tend to take the journey ahead for granted. I know I certainly did. The way I saw it was that I’ve got 3 or 4 years ahead of me to¬†concentrate on things and make something of it. Concentration and focus was the one thing I lacked most of the time. If only I had a cheat sheet of the best tips for how to manage my time, schedule and workload…   Top 10: Time Management Tips for Students This is a list of the time management…

Time management skills are something that you can only build through practice. These basic time management tips should act as a trigger for you to form habits of good time management. It shouldn’t feel like a chore having to manage time efficiently, it should and will come naturally. As you’ll know from my previous articles, I’ve not always been the best at managing my time. Even now I’m still learning and creating new ways to keep on top of it all. This is to serve as a culmination of what I’ve learned and the habits I’ve formed over several years. Identify the gaps in your skill set This might not apply to everyone, depending on where you are in your career or what you do for a living. It certainly helped me. It is important to catch a stressful task early and avoid the ensuing frustration. The origin of my search for the best time management techniques

My own search for enlightenment on the best time management techniques started during the latter part of my first (real) year at university. What triggered it for me was a part-time job I had at a hotel as a bartender and later as a night porter. It wasn’t so much the role as a bartender that triggered the mindset, nothing passes time faster. Not to mention it’s very easy to manage something when you’re constantly handling it, that is your stock levels, cash float and clean glasses supply. Being a night porter, on the other hand, requires meticulous timekeeping and task management. Laugh, if you will but, without any thought for keeping an eye on the clock and making sure to accomplish everything on time, it’s a challenge. Of course, with a little experience, it becomes much easier.   What spurred the question of how to manage time? One thing…

Taking business process development into your own hands

In all businesses, at least the ones I’ve encountered, it’s never the case that all of the processes are perfect. And honestly, striving for 100% perfection is probably unachievable, because something always changes. Staff, projects, tasks, work load – it all changes all of the time. Rather than reworking an entire business, perhaps you can take business process development into your own hands and work on a little corner at a time. All the small puzzle pieces soon add up to a beautiful picture.   Pay attention to details I’ve previously written about applying Agile methodologies to any industry, which remains applicable, but on a slightly larger scale. Agile provides a framework for tying all the individual processes together. It gives an overview of where each department gets involved. Developing business processes and departmental processes takes a little more focus and zooms in. You need to get to grips with…
